Model's Lips

An Innovative and Non-Invasive Lip Treatment for Immediate and Lasting Improvements in Lip Hydration and Volume

Background: With age, collagen, elastin and hyaluronan decline, leading to changes in the lip area. Skin begins to sag and elongate, resulting in thinner lips that display a loss of contour and definition. Increased dehydration contributes to cracking, vertical lines, and loss of color. Each of these lead to deterioration in volume and overall lip appearance. Typical cosmetic treatments only offer instant benefits via irritating ingredients which often don't address long term hydration or volume. As a response, consumers have increasingly turned to procedures and fillers to restore the look of younger lips, however, these solutions can be costly, invasive and don't always provide the desired results. A non-invasive topical lip product was developed to address short- and long-term plumping without the irritation while providing 48-hour hydration. This clinical study investigated immediate and long-term efficacy and tolerability of this novel topical lip product.

Protocol:

  • A 4-week in-use study was conducted on women 20-50 years old with mild to moderate lip dryness and fullness.
  • Subjects applied the product minimum twice daily.
  • Assessments included 48-hour skin hydration, image analysis, expert grading, subject self-assessment, and tolerability.

Results/Conclusion:

Results from expert grading, imaging, and self-assessment confirmed significant improvements in lip volume and color within minutes after application, beginning with the first application. With continued use, cumulative improvements were measured for volume (15%: improvement double between weeks 1 and 4), lip lines (15%), roughness (18%), color (14%), elasticity (18%), contour (8%), and overall appearance (19%). The product was well-tolerated and well-perceived by subjects.
