There is no safe dose of UV light. When your skin is tanned, it is damaged, and you increase your risk of skin cancer.​

People should be aware that No sunscreen is waterproof, and all sunscreens eventually wash off. It is recommended to reapply after swimming or sweating regardless of time of your last application and no matter the SPF value.​

Even when it’s cloudy, up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV radiation reaches the earth. Going unprotected on an overcast day can lead to skin damage.​

Even if you apply sunscreen well, it still allows 2 to 3 % of the sun's UVB rays to penetrate the skin. ​Your body only needs a little to produce Vitamin D.​

Dark skin may not sunburn as easily as lighter skin, but it is still at risk of sun damage from sun exposure. ​You need daily sun protection no matter your skin color.

UVA and UVB are different but both damage the skin. You need protection from both, all year round.​

No matter the SPF, reapplication every two hours is key.  Sunscreen must also be reapplied immediately after swimming or sweating.​

You should use sunscreen on every part of your body that is exposed to the sun, including those easy-to-miss spots: the tops of your ears, back of your neck, your scalp (on the part line), tops of your feet and behind your knees. Skin cancer also can form on the lips. To protect your lips, apply a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.​

Keep in mind that while crucial, sunscreen alone is not enough. ​Seek the shade whenever possible, wear sun-safe clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses, for a complete sun safety strategy.​
