Daily SPF Guide

Daily SPF Guide

Yes. SPF is an essential morning step in a complete skincare routine. It helps to protect skin from UVA/UVB rays and the visible signs of photoaging.

Do You Need SPF? The Short Answer: Yes.

SPF is not just a “beach day” step. It is a year round daily skincare essential that helps shield skin from damaging UVA/UVB rays. Consistent SPF use helps protect the work you put into your routine—whether your focus is hydration, visible glow, a more even-looking tone, or reducing the look of lines and wrinkles.

It is especially important when using Retinol. RoC recommends applying SPF 30 or higher in the morning while using Retinol in your skincare routine, but SPF belongs in every morning routine no matter what.

What Are The Benefits Of SPF In Skincare?

A well-chosen SPF can do more than protect. RoC SPF moisturizers pair broad-spectrum sun protection with skincare benefits, so your morning step can help hydrate, visibly brighten, smooth the look of lines, or visibly improve tone depending on the formula you choose.

For example, Hydration+ Moisturizer SPF 30 is an all-in-one facial moisturizer and sunscreen that deeply hydrates and visibly plumps the look of lines while providing SPF 30 protection.

How To Choose The Right SPF For Your Skin

The best SPF is the one you will use generously, consistently, and reapply. Choose your formula by your skin goals and preferred texture:

For barrier support and sensitive-feeling skin

Barrier Renew® AM Moisturizer SPF 30 is formulated with ceramides, SPF 30, and prebiotics. It is ultra lightweight, fragrance-free, paraben-free, won’t clog pores, and has no white cast. With continued daily use, it is clinically proven to hydrate, visibly brighten, and visibly smooth for healthy-looking skin in 14 days*.

For hydration and plumper-looking skin

Hydration+ Moisturizer SPF 30 is a lightweight, non-greasy facial moisturizer with SPF 30 that hydrates, visibly plumps the look of lines**, and protects—with no white cast.

For dullness and visible glow

Revive + Glow Moisturizer SPF 30 combines Vitamin C and SPF 30 in a lightweight, non-greasy formula that is clinically proven to deliver visibly brighter, revitalized skin***.

For uneven tone and lifted-looking skin

Even Tone + Lift Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 is a clinically proven tone-evening sunscreen with Niacinamide. The formula helps skin look lifted, visibly evens tone, delivers deep hydration****, and protects against damaging UVA/UVB rays.

For reducing the look of deep wrinkles

RETINOL CORREXION® Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 is formulated with Clinical Retinol and SPF 30 to hydrate, help reduce the look of deep wrinkles over time with continued use*****, and protect from signs of photoaging.

For the chest, neck, and face

Even Tone + Lift Chest, Neck & Face Cream SPF 30 is a lightweight day cream for the delicate chest and neck areas. With continued use, it is clinically proven to visibly improve discoloration, crepiness, dryness, dull tone, and the look of wrinkles in 4 weeks******.

How To Layer SPF With Your Skincare Routine

In the morning, SPF should be the final skincare step before makeup. A simple order is: cleanse, apply eye cream and/or serum, then apply your SPF moisturizer generously and evenly.

Follow product directions: apply SPF generously and evenly 15 minutes before sun exposure.

How Often Should You Reapply SPF?

Reapplication matters. RoC SPF product directions recommend reapplying at least every 2 hours. This is especially important because SPF is not a one-and-done step; it is a protection step that should be refreshed throughout the day.

Do not forget the neck and chest. Apply after cleansing in the AM to the chest, neck, and face, smoothing on with upward strokes until fully absorbed, then reapply SPF every 2 hours.

SPF & Retinol: What To Know

Retinol is a powerful ingredient, so new users should slowly introduce Retinol formulas to help build tolerance. If you want more direction, please see our Retinol Guide. When using Retinol in your routine, always apply SPF 30 or higher in the AM.

That said, SPF is not only for Retinol users. Whether your routine is focused on hydration, visible radiance, barrier support, or reducing the look of lines and wrinkles, SPF is the daily step that helps protect your routine and your skin.
